The Fantasy Wrecker – Week 3

fantasywrecker2

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. Most people I know had Larry Fitzgerald sitting on their bench in Week 2, and they missed out on Fitzgerald’s first ever three score game. They didn’t do anything wrong. If you’re in a ten team league and didn’t load up on running backs, you probably had better options than Fitzgerald. But if you had him in your lineup, you hit the jackpot. And sometimes that’s all fantasy football is—a crapshoot with helmets. It’s what makes it great and agonizing at the same time. So do your research, trust your gut, and hope for the best.

Let’s get to Week 3…

Three Players Who Will Wreck Your Opponents This Week:

Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle – The Bears have given up seven touchdown passes this season, the most in the NFL. The Seahawks are at home and desperate for a win. Wilson was actually better on the road last season, throwing 14 of his 20 touchdowns away from rainy Seattle. But Wilson has a tendency to show up in big games, and the possibility of starting out 0-3 makes this a must-win.

Ronnie Hillman, RB, Denver – is a shot in the dark and I’m nervous about it, but the Broncos are facing a Lions defense that has given up the third most fantasy points in the league this season. Hillman is the leading rusher so far for Denver (yes, that’s accurate) and only has three fewer carries than first round favorite CJ Anderson. I think Hillman takes over in the backfield for Denver, and this game could be the springboard he uses to do it.

New England Patriots D/ST—I stream defenses in fantasy, which means I choose a different defense every week depending on the matchup. And the first thing I check is who’s playing the Jaguars. Sorry, Jacksonville fans, but facing your team usually means a lot of points for my fantasy defense. The Patriots aren’t great in the secondary, but Darth Belicheck causes inexperienced QBs like Blake Bortles a lot of headaches.

Three Players Who Will Wreck Your Team This Week:

Matthew Stafford, QB, Detroit – The Broncos haven’t allowed a touchdown pass this season. Do you want to bet on Stafford being the first? I didn’t think so.

Mark Ingram, RB, New Orleans – The Panthers have only allowed sixteen total points to RBs this season, Drew Brees is banged up, and the Saints have a habit of spreading the ball around to everyone.

Golden Tate, WR, Detroit – I’ll say it again: the Broncos haven’t allowed a passing touchdown this season. At least with Calvin Johnson there’s a chance he gets a jump-ball touchdown in the redzone. Tate will be blanketed by either Aquib Talib or Chris Harris Jr., both of whom are great at their jobs.

The Guy Who’s Wrecking My Fantasy Season This Week:

Listen, I knew when I ended up with Sam Bradford in the 13th round that quarterback was not going to be the strength of my team. But nineteen points in two games? I’m not mad at you, Sam. I’m mad at myself. As a diehard University of Texas fan, I should’ve known better than picking a Sooner. Your buddy Adrian Peterson wrecked my entire season last year, and now you’re doing the same. There should be an emoji made specifically for you, Sam, so I can communicate more quickly how disappointing you are.
